Frontispiece of Jan Wagenaar’s (1683-1758): ‘Vaderlandsche historie, vervattende de geschiedenissen der nu Vereenigde Nederlanden, inzonderheid die van Holland (…).’ Published in Amsterdam by Isaak Tirion in 1749.

History records the Dutch history in her book. She is talking to an allegorical female figure, with wings on her head. Beside her are Strength, in armour, and Liberty, lance in hand. Soldiers behind them. In the foreground a lion, surrounded by three putti, and various religious attributes. In the air, Father Time pushes a drapery aside.

Signed at bottom:: ‘J. Punt inv. et fecit.’

[NL] Geschiedenis tekent de Vaderlandse Geschiedenis op in haar boek. Ze is in gesprek met een allegorische figuur, met vleugels op haar hoofd. Naast haar staan Kracht, in harnas, en Vrijheid met haar lans in de hand. Achter hen soldaten. Op de voorgrond een leeuw, omringd door drie putti en diverse religieuze attributen. In de lucht schuift Vader Tijd een draperie opzij.
