Very rare engraving of the Magdalena repentant seated, holding a crucifix and the jar with oils.

On the bottom two lines by Schoneus:’Magdalis ingenuit, vite pertesa prioris / Et sibi presentem sentit adesse Deum. / C. Schoneus.’.

Signed on the bottom:’J Matham excudit'[JM in one] and on the top right:’HGoltzius In’ [HG in one]. Dated on the stump of the tree on the left:’1620′.

Collector’s mark on the verso: Pim van Eekelen (Amsterdam 1923-1984) (L.5101).

Engraving on paper with small margins; platemark: 263 x 179 mm; total: 267 x 186 mm. Evenly yellowed paper, some stains along the left margin and on the verso. Not in Hollstein; Widerkehr, NKJ 42/43, p. 260, nr. M 34 (prints published by Matham).
