Bust portrait of Hendrik de Keyser (1565-1621), one of the most important Dutch sculptors of his day. Bust turned to the left, sitter looking at the viewer, holding a compass in his right hand.

Titled below, with four lines of text in French describing his activities: ‘HENRI DE KEYSER / Architecte de la ville d’Amstelredam, il etoit un de mellieurs sculpteurs d’Hollande, qu ‘on / peult voire per le tombeau du prince d’Oraigne, qu’ il a faict a Delft, et le maison de la / ville. le iour de sa naisance fut en l’an 1565. le 25 de may, dans la ville d’ Vtrecht; et il / mourut a Amstelredam lan 1621. le 15 de maij.’ Signed: ‘I· Meyssens fecit excudit.’

Included in Cornelis de Bie’s:  ‘Het gulden cabinet vande edele vry schilder-const.’published in Antwerpen in 1662 (vol. 3, p. 459).
