Full leather binding with weak hinges and some wear. Still a decorative binding with red vignet and in goldprint “Leland’s View” on the spine. 20 x 13 cm.

Interior in good condition, except for some wormholes on the first pages. With inscription on the first flyleaf: Voor Ernestine 1976-2001, met veel dank, Jan. Family crest on the endpaper: French lilies and a hand. On the top a helmet.

John Leland (1691-1766) was a non-conformist minister and wrote many books. In this book he attacks the deists (deisten). Deism is the idea that it is possible to know the existence of God using reason alone. According to this view, revelation plays no role in the knowledge of God. The term is also related to the idea that God created the universe and then disappeared. The universe was left to its own laws.
