Symmacus decides to gradually retire himself as eremit: on the left he is sitting talking to another man, and on the right the progressive retirement of Symmacus on the top of a mountain. Late impression. Inscribed on the bottom left: ‘cu priv. Su Pont. et S. Caes. Ma.’; ‘Joa. Sadel. sculp.’; ‘Vos figur. ‘; lettered on the bottom: ‘Commoda Caesareae despexi SYMMACHUS aulae, / Sed tamen in sylvis commoda parva capit / Rusticus ista dabat vitio; tum Symmachus illi. / Respice, qualis eras: respice, qualis eram.’ Hollstein de Vos, 1057
