Portuguese edition of the famous voyages of Captain William Dampier (1651–1715), an English sailor, explorer, and buccaneer. Contains accounts of his adventures with pirates. Describes his first and second circumnavigations (including A New Voyage Round the World, 1697) and his time among the buccaneers of Bartholomew Sharp and Charles Swan, including actions against Spanish colonies in Panama, Peru, and Mexico. Includes sailing logs, piracy tales, and observations of fauna, flora, and coastal regions, including early descriptions of Australia.

Later half leather binding, in good condition. Guilt text on the spine: Celebres Viagens. 17,5 x 11 cm. Octavo edition on laid paper. “Com licença da Meza do Desembargo do Paço.” “Catalogo de alguns livros que ha para verder brochados em casa do Editor F.B.O. de M. Mechas, Mercador de Livros, no Largo do Caes do Sodré, No. 3.A.”–Page [1-6].

Provenance: Pasted in ex libris with the text “Constanter” (same as Constantijn Huygens alsways used) with family coat of arm, which is of the family (Von) Ra(a)ben. In pencil it is written that this is Comt F.C. Von Raaben who lived in 1838 in Rio de Janeiro.
