Printed publication, 1780, Almanac | Friesch Comptoir Almanach, op ‘t Schrikkeljaar … 1780, J. Seydel, Leeuwarden, 1780, 32,68,12 pp.
A 1780 Frisian almanac with catches and a large closing pin. Printed in red and black ink. Ornamental four silver catches and a silver pin. With special page with prepared paper (geprepareerd papier) to write and delete the writings.
In essence, an almanac served as a calendar showing the most important saint’s days, lunar phases and market days throughout the country. Tides and eclipses were also listed. In addition, almanacs included an ‘address book’; the officials of all kinds of official bodies and administrations were listed, such as those of the Provincial States, the councillors and lawyers at the Court and the Admiralty Councils. Furthermore, we find lists of professors at the Franeker Academy, pastors in Friesland and of all towns, parishes and their administrators. Finally, timetables of train barges, boat departure times, and postal services to various towns in (and beyond) Friesland were mentioned.
