Portrait of Carolus Clusius, bust, turned slightly to the right, wearing a ruff collar. Portrait in an oval within an elaborately decorated cartouche flanked by caryatids. Cartouche at the bottom of the oval frame, surmounted by a lion’s head; used as illustration to Isaac Bullart’s “Académie des Sciences et Arts…” published by Foppens in Brussels in 1682. Titled on the cartouche: ‘CAROLVS CLVSIVS / N de Larmessin sculp.’ Date of publishing 1682 in Brussels.
Engraving on paper mounted on mat and passepartout; letterpress on verso; trimmed close to plate; total: 194 x 156 mm; despite some very light smudges on the right margin, in extremely good condition.
