Portrait of Pieter Christiaensz. Bor, at the age of 66. Born as a pharmacist’s son. Notary in Haarlem, later council member of Noord-Holland, historian and writer.

In an inscribed oval; the bust turned to the right, looking and smiling at the observer, a quill pen in his right hand, reaching over the frame. Four round-shaped frames contain allegories of Time, Truth, History and Poetry.

Eight lines of Dutch text authored by Petrus Scriverius [P.S.] at the bottom. On verso text in letterpress. The pale was used to decorate Bor’s ‘Vervolch vande Neerlandsche oorloghen beroerten…’ published in 1626. Date of publishing print 1625 in Haarlem.

Engraving on paper, trimmed close to platemark; on verso letterpress; total: 268 x 177 mm; Hollstein 234; M. 533.
