Half parchment contemporary binding. 15 cm high and 11 cm width. Bindings with some small damages. Water damage on some of the pages. First blank page cut on the top (former inscription of owner cut out). With engraved title page and 18 pagesize engravings and 1 smaller engraving in the text. Willems 1155. Famous book on miscarriages and monsters and one of the first treatises on the Beri-Beri (over misgeboorten en monsters en een der eerste verhandelingen over de beri-beri (pag. 300-305)). Second edition, (first dated 1641), now added with a fourth book. Nicolaas Tulp (1593-1674) is also famous as the doctor from the Anatomic lessons by Rembrandt (arts uit de Anatomische les van Rembrandt).
Tulp’s first edition had five brief but vivid case reports of head injuries and added two more in this second (1652) edition. The last edition is from 1716. Tulp’s book contains 18 short chapters dealing with stones in the kidneys, ureters, bladder and uretha.
