This annotated edition of Pliny the Younger’s Epistulae preserves one of the most important collections of Latin letters, offering a vivid picture of Roman political, social, and cultural life in the early Empire. Edited by the philologist Gierig, it is especially significant for the famous correspondence with Emperor Trajan, including the earliest non-Christian account of the persecution of Christians.

Annotated edition of the letter collection of the politician and author Plinius Caeculius Secundus or Minor (61/62 – 112 AC). This collection consists of 10 books. This version was edited by the German philologist Gierig (1752 – 1814). Plinius Minor was a cousin of Pliniuis Major, the author of ‘Naturalis historia’. The most famous letters in this collection are the letters about the persecutions of Christians and the tenth book which contains his correspondence with emperor Trajanus.
