Dutch translation of the comedies of Terentius by Henricus Zwaardekroon (1594 -), who was the rector of the Gymnasium Erasmium, the Latin School in Rotterdam, from 1634 to 1651. Apparently, there was a lot of interest in this translation of Terentius, because after the parallel edition Latin-Dutch from 1648 and a second edition in 1663, a third edition was already necessary five years later. This edition contained only the Dutch text, for all those “die nevens mij onkondig zijn in de Latijnsche taal” (who are ignorant of the Latin language). The italic words in the text aren’t translated from the Latin text, but added by the translator to explain something or write better Dutch.
