Vivant Denon, Dominique (1747-1825)
Two beggars (twee bedelaars).
Two beggars in a courtyard, holding walking sticks and hats to collect offers on the street. Very interesting and rare etching.
Signed and dated at the bottom: “DeNon inu et Scul. – 1782.”
Various collector’s marks: on the recto, bottom right: Alfred Beurdeley II (1847-1919) (L.421) and on the verso Gustave Francotte (Liège 1852-id. 1925) (L.3196)
Etching on Japanese (?) paper. Extremely thin and fine paper, evenly yellowed. In some spots also some foxing. Due to the delicacy of the paper, several tears along the margins, some ghost tape on verso and tiny holes on the plate. Still, the impression of great quality. Total: 253 x 216 mm. Not in Le Blanc.
