A rare devotional book promoting the traditional “Devotion of the Thirteen Fridays” in honor of Saint Francis of Paola, founder of the Order of Minims and one of the most revered hermit-saints of Southern Italy. This practice involved attending Mass or offering prayers on thirteen consecutive Fridays to seek divine graces and emulgate the virtues of the saint, particularly humility, poverty and contemplative silence. Rooted in Baroque Catholic piety, this work relfects the deep popylar devotion to St. Francis especially in Naples and Calabria.
Contemporary full vellum with many severe damages. Poor copy, page 95-96 is loose. With (almost loose) frontispiece by Arnoldo V. Westerhout after Domenico Campiglia. With 13 engravings (for each Friday one) (engraving 3 with paper loss on the left, some other engravings with a tear or frayed edges due to intesive use). Text in Latin.

Provenance: With handwritten text on the flyleaf “Libro di Devozione di Rosa Basetti”. Rosa Basetti is nu een bekende actrice in sex video’s. Deze Rosa Basetti was de voormalige eigenaar van dit devotionele boek.
[NL] Religieus-devotioneel werk dat draait om de “Devotie van de Dertien Vrijdagen” ter ere van de heilige Franciscus van Paola (San Francesco di Paola , 1416–1507), een Italiaanse kluizenaar en stichter van de Minimi -orde. Een reeks gebeden, meditaties en overwegingen die op 13 opeenvolgende vrijdagen worden gedaan. Vaak gepaard met aflaten, beloften van vergeving of bescherming voor wie deze devotie met oprechte intentie verrichtte. Van Paolo werd in 1519 heilig verklaard. Hij was bekend om zijn wonderen, zijn extreme ascese en zijn invloed aan het Franse hof. Volksdevotie in Italië. De Orde der Minimen is een Rooms-Katholieke religieuze orde die in de 15e eeuw werd gesticht door Franciscus van Paola (1416-1507) in Calabrië, Zuid-Italië. De “allerkleinsten” waarmee ze hun nederigheid en dienstbaarheid uitdrukten, nog kleiner dan de Minderbroeders (Franciscanen). De Minimen promootten populaire devoties zoals deze Dertien Vrijdagen.
Drukkerij Stamperia del Komarek was een beroemde drukkerij in Rome tijdens de late 17e en begin 18e eeuw, geleid door de familie Komarek van Boheemse afkomst.
