St. Marcellinus [from the set of Saints from the Southern and the Northern Netherlands].
Saint Marcellinus, whole-length, in bishop’s garb, holding a quill pen and resting his left hand on open pages to a book on the life of St Swithbert. Inscribed at bottom: ‘MARCELLINUS EX XII … COLITUR XIV. IULII.’ With two further lines of Dutch ‘Marcellijn een van de 12 Discipelen … Wort geviert den 14. Iulij.’ Below left ‘P.Soutmanno Diriente. Corn. / Vischer Sculpebat Cum Privilegio’ and at right ‘P.Soutmannus inveniebat et excudebat / Harlemi. 1650.’ Published by Cornelis Visscher II (1628/29-1658).
