Very rare and early publication of Plantijn in Antwerp Belgium. This sacred school comedy dramatizes the story of Naaman, a Syrian commander healed of leprosy through the prophet Elisha, emphasizing humility and divine grace. Written in Latin and modeled on classical comic structure, it was intended to teach students both moral lessons and elegant humanist language. Rare edition, no copies in STCN, only 5 copies in USTC (nr. 401873).

Later decorated paper binding, with some light fading on the edges and spine. Octavo edition, 8°. With vignet on the titlepage with text ‘Constantia Labore et’. Pages with light stains but overall in good condition.

[NL] Dit is een sacrale (bijbelse) komedie, geschreven in Latijn, bedoeld voor scholierenonderwijs aan Latijnse scholen. Het toneelstuk dramatisert het bijbelverhaal van Naäman (2 Koningen 5), de Syrische legeroverste die door de profeet Elisa van zijn melaatsheid wordt genezen. Cornelis Schonaeus (1540-1611) was de rector van de Latijnse school te Haarlem, een van de belangrijkste Latijnse schooldramatisten van de Nederlanden. Christophe Plantin (Plantijn) was de grootste drukker in de Nederlanden.
