Allegorical representation realized on the occasion of the treaty between the French Republic and William V, Prince of Orange-Nassau. All the stadholders of Holland are on a large decorated staircase; at the top of Willem I and at the bottom of Willem V. Willem V is escorted down the stairs by Frederick William II, king of Prussia and Bonaparte. Some important historical events are depicted on the steps. In the background a map of the Netherlands and on the left several sailing ships. At the top of the stairs is a painting of the covenant of the nobles and the beheading of the counts of Egmond and Horne. Under the picture, a seven-line caption in Dutch: “TAFFEREEL VAN HET STADHOUDERSCHAP IN DE NEDERLANDEN VAN A. 1565 tot 1802…”
