Half-length portrait of Hans Holbein slightly turned to the left, dressed in a doublet with an open collar. Lettered below image “Giovanni Holpein Pittore di Storie, di Miniature e di Ritratti nacque in Basilea l’anno 1498. mori l’anno 1554.” Signed “Giu. Menabuoni del.” “Nic. Billiy scolpi,” lettered above “Ioannes Holpenius sui ipsius effigiator” and “Basilensis Ae. XLV.” Published in “Ritratti De’ Più Celebri Professori Di Pittura Dipinti Di Propria Mano Esistenti Nell’Imperial Galleria Di Firenze… ” published by Francesco Moücke in Florence, in 1748.

Engraving on paper, with broad margins; plate mark: 272 x 172 mm, total: 459 x 317 mm; some foxing and smudges along the most external margins, some scribbling in pencil on the bottom right margin. In very good condition.

Hans Holbein de Jonge was een kunstschilder die werkte in de stijl van de Noordelijke renaissance. Holbein werd geboren in Augsburg in Beieren, in een familie van kunstschilders, onder wie zijn vader, Hans Holbein de Oude en zijn oom Sigismund Holbein.
