Bust portrait in an inscribed oval frame of numismatis Gerard van Loon (1683-1758), turned to the right, looking at the observer. A cupid seated in front of the frame, removing the curtain covering the portrait, some coins and medals in the front, some books and an oil lamp on the right. A six lines inscription by J. Goeree on the plinth at bottom.

” Wat lof, wat loon, VAN LOON zal Nederland best schenken, om uw Uyt-muntendt Werk van Munten, te gedenken”.

Inscribed on the oval frame: GERARD VAN LOON. OUD XL. MDCCXXIII.

[NL] Gerard van Loon op 40-jarige leeftijd Buste in ovaal met randschrift en bovenaan een wapen. Het portret rust op een sokkel met daarop een cartouche met een zesregelig vers in het Nederlands. Links op de sokkel naast het portret een putto die een stuk gordijn openhoudt en rechts boeken, een olielampje en munten. Gerard van Loon (1683-1758) was een Nederlandse jurist, historicus en numismaat, verzamelaar van penningen. Ook bekend als geschiedschrijver en uitgever van historische bronnen. Engraving on laid paper with margins; total: 375 x 256 mm; state II/3; on the later state the date and age of the sitter are changed and the inscription at bottom is also modified. Two pin holes on the top margins, some light browning on the most external margins, some light rubbing, otherwise in very good condition. Ver Huell 274.
