Half leather binding, different leather used in Volume I and Volume II. Volume I misses titlepage. Further complete. Rare. Pages with some foxing and browning, Some pages with small text loss but overall a reasonable good copy.
This book was in fact largely written by James Macpherson. This is a reproduction of the original from Bodleian Library Oxford.
[NL] Verzameling van epische en lyrische gedichten die James Macpherson in de 18e eeuw publiceerde als vertalingen van Keltische bardische teksten, toegeschreven aan de Schotse bard Ossian, zoon van Fingal. Opgenomen bijvoorbeeld: Cath-Loda , Carthon , Croma , Oina-Morul , en The Songs of Selma . In deel II: Fingal en Temora. Later ontdekt dat Macpherson de gedichten voornamelijk zelf schreef. De Ossian poëzie werd geprezen door Goethe, Napoleon Bonaparte etc. Napoleon zou een exemplaar van deze gedichten hebben meegedragen tijdens zijn veldtochten. Voorbeeld van Romantiek.
