Peasants conversing (Tekening van pratende boeren).
Drawing probably deriving from an Album Amicorum (on the top the margin of the sheet is gilded) representing two elderly peasants conversing through a half-opened door. A child is trying to get the attention of the old woman, pulling the woman’s apron.
On the verso a calligraphic inscription: ‘J(D?)Broer / Leiden, 22den December / 1837.’
Inspired by the genre painters oeuvre, like Adriaen and Isaak van Ostade, Jan Steen or Cornelis Bega.
