[Paper maker device, printed watermark] Van der Ley. Printed in red ink, dating ca. 1780.

This is a printed paper cover for a batch of freshly made paper from the mill of Van der Ley. This is a cut out from a much wider paper with which the new leaves were wrapped. The illustration – the “hollandse leeuw” with hat and arrows – is the device the Van der Leys also used as a watermark.
