Rococo decorative print to be employed as a wish card.
At the top corners scenes from the Old Testament, namely the death of Abel and the sacrifice of Isaak; at center a winged figure holding an olive branch; in the vignettes on the sides are shepherds. At bottom, the scene of the Nativity (geboorte van Christus, kerstmis).
Not numbered, without address of a publisher. The bottom scene is copied after Rijksmuseum’s impression inv. RP-P-OB-207.494. Might come from the same publisher/ workshop: widow of Jeronimus Ratelband and Johannes Bouwer.
In the Netherlands on Newyearsday children would visit family and recite the self-written letters to parents and grandparents in exchange for a gift. The tradition died out in the early 20th century.
