A Dutch translation of the original French guide to the artificial incubation of eggs (1749) by famed natural historian René Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur (1683-1757). Réaumur was a prolific scientist and intellectual who, though best known as an entomologist, made contributions across many disciplines, including geometry, meteorology, physics, and botany. These volumes represent the arrival in the Netherlands of a decisive advance in the economics of animal husbandry: accompanied by precise diagrams, Réaumur outlines how to leverage heat produced by various sources (e.g. fire, manure) to hatch and raise domestic fowl in all seasons.
