Hooghe, Romeyn de (1645-1708)

Justitie door graaff Willem de Goede over den bailliou van Zuyd-Holland’, 1336 [ca. 1677].

Plate from the second volume of “Beschryvinge der stad Dordrecht vervatende haar begin, opkomst, toeneming, en verdere stant …”, published in 1677, containing several plates by de Hooghe and his workshop as well as by other artists. This plate was to be found after p. 736. William III, lying sick in bed in Valenciennes, receiving the farmer to whom the bailiff sold an old and sick cow instead of a good one. Therefore, Willem III decides that the bailiff should be beheaded (on the right). ca. 1677.
