Bust portrait of Petrus Purmerent (1587-1663), directed to the right, head slightly turned to face the viewer, wearing a flat white collar and a skull-cap; within lettered oval frame; after painting by Ludolf de Jongh; illustration to Frans van Mieris, “Kerkelijke Historie en Outheden der Zeven Vereenigde Provincien” (Dirk Haak, Samuel Luchtmans & Johannes Arnoldus Langerak: Leiden, 1726). Lettered with a description of the sitter around the oval: ‘Adm. Reverend. et Ervditissim. … Goudæ Idib. Feb. A. D. 1663.’; lettered with four lines of Dutch verse below the portrait: ‘Die tot Gemeentens … wil en wensch.’; lettered ‘Pars 11. Pag. 182.’ below.
Lettered with production details in lower margin: ‘L. de Jonge pinx.’ and ‘R. A. Persÿn Sculp.’. After 1663 (inscription attesting the death of the sitter).

Engraving on paper with margins; plate mark: 275 x 195 mm; total: 403 x 238 mm; despite some discoloration in very good condition.

Petrus Purmerent was een rooms-katholiek priester, stichter van de statie Sint Jan Baptist in Gouda en stimulator van de contrareformatie in Gouda.
