Hand colored print with Princess Wilhelmina of Prussia being held in the house at Goejanverwellesluis and guarded by smoking and drinking soldiers, in June 28, 1787 (de Aanhouding bij Goejanverwellesluis).

This print shows the princess being held captive at the height of the battle between the Patriots and Orangists. Wilhelmina of Prussia, the wife of Stadtholder Willem V, was on her way to The Hague that day to persuade the States of Holland to allow her expelled husband to return to The Hague. To prevent this, Patriots from Gouda stopped her. The arrest prompted her brother, Frederick William II of Prussia to invade the republic, which in turn led to the fall of the Patriots. Incidentally, the arrest did not take place in Goejanverwellesluis but at Bonrepas on the river Vlist, on the road from Schoonhoven to Haastrecht.
