Fifth plate from CASPERIUS GEVARTIUS published in Antwerp, commissioned by the City-coucil to commemorate the triumphal entry of Ferdinand of Austria in Antwerp in 1635. After Rubens’ paintings.
In the present plate the prince on horse approaches a personification of the city of Antwerp, kneeling in front of him. Page number above, on the right: Pag. ii / 6. Signed at bottom: ‘P.P Rubens / Th. a Thul. sculp.’ Ten lines of Latin text: ‘SOL BELGIS… VICTORIA PENNIS / C. Geuartus lud.’. The number ‘8’ on the bottom left, identifying the second state, has been scratched out from the paper.
