Jean Baptiste de Poilly (1712-1780), after François Verdier (1651-1730)

[Antique print, etching/ets] Hercules and Cerberus [mythologie], published ca. 1750.

From a set known as the “Recueil de plusieurs Figures d’Academie, Dessinée d’apres le Naturel” here is a full figure representation of Hercules, dragging the three-headed Cerberus. The hero is seen from behind.

Signed at bottom: “F. Verdier jnuent / J. Bapt de Poilly sculp. CPR.”.

Etching on paper with broad margins; plate mark: 261 x 192 mm; total: 393 x 268 mm; some smudges on the margins and traces of previous mounting on the verso, not affecting the plate.
