[Antique print, etching/ets] Aansprekersoproer; execution of rebels in Amsterdam, published 1689.

A man shouting with a knife in his hand, behind him the ‘Waag’ in Amsterdam with corpses of rebels hanging out of the window and from the gallows. The riots arose over plans by the Amsterdam municipal government to raise taxes on funerals.

Etching on laid paper, trimmed within plate mark; total: 236 x 168 mm; two horizontal folding creases, damage on the right margin , thin paper, mounted on a cardboard mat; some dirt and smudges. Muller 2949.
