Commemorative medal with portrait of admiral Michiel de Ruyter on one side and on the other the Four Day’s battle between the English and the Dutch fleet in 1666. On the left de Ruyter is being crown by two allegorical figures; on a ribbon on the bottom inscribed: ‘M.A.D.RUYTER.LUYT.GEN.’ all around the frame: ‘DE RUYTER DIE DEN BRIT SYN MOET GETEUGELT HEEFT,ALDUS,DOOR MULLERSHANT,INT GOUT EN SILUER LEEFT.Aº.MDCLXVI DEN XIIII JUNY.+’ On the frame of the other side: ‘HIER STRYCKT HET BRITSCH GEWELT VOOR’NEDERLANT DE VLAGH DE ZEE HEEFT NOIT GEWAEGHT VAN ZULK EEN’ZWAEREN SLAGH*’ On the verso collector’s mark: Pim van Eekelen (Amsterdam 1923-1984) (L.5101)..
