[Antique etching/ets] Artemis Ephesia and Marsyas [‘Segmenta nobilium signorum et statuarum.’, 1638]/Artemis, Ephesia en de satyr Marsyas.

The statue of Artemis Ephesia on the left, on a high pedestal flanked by two deers and, on the right, Marsyas tied to a tree; after statues formerly in the Medici collection. Signed and numbered on the ground: “FP B / 18”, FP monogrammed and the B stands for “Bergognone”.

From ‘Segmenta Nobiliarum Signorum et Statuarum’, a series of 101 etched plates (frontispiece and 100 illustrations) representing statues from Rome, first published in Rome in 1638, and reprinted five times before the end of the seventeenth century.

On verso, on the bottom right corner collector’s mark: “P” in black (stencilled?).

Etching on laid paper; plate mark: 256 x 156 mm, total: 291 x 181 mm; some soiling and foldings on the external margins, top right corner folded in, otherwise very nice impression. Le Blanc 38-137.
