A young man seated at a table with a pen in his right hand and a white sheet in front of him. His left elbow rests on the table, his hand raised in front of his chest. He is wearing a shirt and a cape opened in the front, a soft hat leaning on the side of his head. He is looking at the observer with a slightly opened mouth. A window opens on the right background, showing some trees and clouds in the sky.

Within oval and a rectangular frame.

On verso inscription in pencil: Disegn[o?]

Suggested attribution: Jan de Bray (c. 1627-1697), but possibly by an anonymous Italian artist from the mid 17th century.

[NL] Een jongeman zit aan een tafel met een pen in zijn rechterhand en een wit laken voor zich. Zijn linker elleboog rust op tafel, zijn hand opgeheven voor zijn borst. Hij draagt een overhemd en een cape aan de voorkant, een zachte hoed leunt op de zijkant van zijn hoofd. Hij kijkt de toeschouwer aan met een licht geopende mond. Op de rechterachtergrond gaat een raam open, waarop enkele bomen en wolken in de lucht te zien zijn. Antieke tekening toegeschreven aan Jan de Bray.

Drawing on paper, mounted on another sheet of paper, pen and brown ink; total: 98 x 82 mm; some staining and light foxing especially on the right side, some traces of handling, traces of former mounting, four pin holes in the corners; in good condition. Mounted on cardboard passepartout.
