Very rare edition of the Dordrecht almanac in the year 1698. Published by shoemaker and expert in mathematics and astronomy, Pieter Rembrantszoon van Nierop. Only surviving copy known, not in STCN, not in USTC.

Later brown paper binding, 95 x 75 mm. Duodecimo edition, 12º. Sewn with rope. Titlevignet with Dutch virgin pointing to the moon, sun and stars. Titlepage in red and black ink. First page loose and with smudges and vanished parts. With the calender for January till December, all with woodcut illustration on the top left. Thereafter the eclipse for the year 1698, holidays for the Court of Holland and the city of Dordrecht, the water tides and the markets and the sunrises and sunsets for the year.

[NL] Zeldzame almanak voor Dordrecht. Geen andere exemplaren bekend. Haitsma Mulier/ Van der Lem 350a: “Dirck Rembrandtszoon van Nierop was schoenmaker van beroep. Daarnaast was hij al vroeg zeer bedreven in wis- en sterrenkunde en deed hij voorstellen op het gebied van de lengtegraadsberekening. Ook publiceerde hij een tractaat waarin hij wilde aantonen dat de stilstand van de zon en de beweging van de aarde niet als strijdig met het christelijk geloof moesten worden gezien. Van Nierop correspondeerde met Christiaan Huygens en Nicolaas Witsen.
