Allegorical vignette with stadtholder Willem V as patron of Leiden university.

Vignette realized on the occasion of the Second Centenary of the founding of the University of Leiden, February 8, 1775. The city maiden of Leiden accompanies the prince to Minerva at a colonnade on the Burcht. On the left the personification of river Rhine, on the right a weapon trophy, in the foreground children with books.

Signed and dated on the bottom right: R. Vinkeles delin et fecit 1775.

[NL] Allegorisch vignet met stadhouder Willem V als beschermheer van de universiteit, bij gelegenheid van het Tweede Eeuwfeest van de oprichting van de Universiteit van Leiden, 8 februari 1775. De stedenmaagd van Leiden begeleidt de prins naar Minerva bij een zuilengalerij op de Burcht. Links de stroomgod van de Rijn, rechts wapentrofee, op de voorgrond kindertjes met boeken. Oorspronkelijk, onder het vignet was een vers van vier regels in het Latijn.
