Greenaway, Kate

Under the window, Pictures & rhymes for children. By Kate Greenaway. Engraved and printed by Edmund Evans. London, George Routledge & sons, n. d. [1878].

SKU: 43868

The front is decorated with a monochrome illustration of children walking around the dark-green title emblem. Each page consists of a rhyme and matching illustration. After she studied art at Islington, Kate Greenaway (1846-1901) came to work for the printer and publisher Edmund Evans. The way she depicted the enchanted Regency world was very appealing to the Victorians. Her popularity spread all over the Western world, as did that of her greatest rivals Walter Crane and Randolph Caldecott. B2329
