Plate 11 from Nicolaes Petter’s publication on wrestling with nice plates by Romeyn de Hooghe. Nicolaes Petter was originally a wine merchant and a well-known and undefeated wrestler in Amsterdam during the 17th century. This publication is one of the most important martial arts books ever published. The title of the book is ‘Klare onderrichtinge der voortreffelijke worstel-konst’ (‘Clear tuition in the excellent art of wrestling’) and was published in Amsterdam by Johannes Janssonius van Waesberge in 1674. Numbered above: 11.
