[Titlepage, etching and engraving] The leader giving audition to knights, published 1711.

In a throne room several chevaliers in armor. In the front two allegorical figures, one writing on a cartouche: “LUD: SMIDS SCHATKAMER der NEDERLANDSCHE OUDHEDEN. Signed at bottom left: “J: Schynvoet del: et fec:.”
Used as frontispiece for Ludolph Smids’: “Schatkamer der Nederlandsche Oudheden; of Woordenboek, behelsende Nederlands steden” published in Amsterdam by Pieter de Coup in 1711.
Attached from the right side of the verso the page of the book with the explanation of the iconography.

Etching and engraving on paper, with margins; plate mark: 158 x 98 mm, total: 198 x 117 mm; in good condition despite some very light foxing.
