Beautiful emblematic frontispiece to the: ‘OEUVRES DIVERSES DE MR BERNARD DE FONTENELLE’ with a portrait of the poet by Rigaud, in an oval held by flying putti. On the bottom right Apollo with his lyre is looking towards the portrait, while the muses are seated in front of him. On the background Pegasus.

Signed on the bottom left:’H. Rigaud Effig. pinxit.’, to the right: ‘B Picart invenit et fecit 1727′ .

Above within cartouche:’OEUVRES DIVERSES / DE M.R BERNARD DE FONTENELLE / de l’Academie Françoise, de celle des Sciences, / et de celle des inscriptions.’ Inscription, Fontenelle, Illus. 1728 //.
