The fireworks in honor of king William III’s visit to The Hague in 1691. Lettered below, in two columns, two lines of text each, one in Dutch and the other in French: “Konst en Vreugde vuuren… den 5 Februari // Le Feux d’Artifice … le 5 Fevrier 1691′. Signed on the bottom left: ‘L. Scherm fec.’ and further on the bottom right: ‘A. Schoonebeek Exc.’ Schonebeek, the publisher, was a pupil of Romeyn de Hooghe. In the same years – 1691/92 – de Hooghe published with Bidloo a larger version of the publication: Engelands schouwtoneel verbeeldende de voornaamste voorvallen in Yrland van ’t Jaar 1690 tot de velttogt van S:K: Mayesteit van Groot Brittanie 1691

of which this print is plate nr. 18 (p. 345?).

Etching on paper, with margins, mounted on cardboard with the tip of one margin; plate mark: 155 x 201 mm, total: 171 x 279 mm; a stain on bottom, slightly affecting the text. Otherwise in very good condition. Hollstein 6, Muller vol. I, p. 410, nr. 2695 and vol. IV, 247, nr. 2695III/18.
