Kay Nielsen (1886-1957) was a renowned artist from Denmark. His work Under the Sign of the Nightingale (Sous le Signe du Rossignol) was evidently inspired by Art Nouveau design but also by Chinese print. Nielsen illustrated a great amount of stories like the tales of Andersen, Perrault and the Arabian nights. Later in life he migrated to the United States where he worked for Walt Disney. In literature about book illustration Nielsen is usually referred to in addition to names as Edmund Dulac and Arthur Rackham. His work was very innovative and progressive.
