[NL] Deze aangrijpende sociale reportage van de Rotterdamse journalist en schrijver M.J. Brusse (1873–1941) behoort tot de vroegste Nederlandse publicaties die de misstanden in de confectie-industrie op indringende wijze aan de kaak stelden. Het werk verscheen in 1910 op initiatief van de Nederlandsche Bond van Mannelijke en Vrouwelijke Arbeiders in de Kleedingindustrie en Aanverwante Vakken, nadat Brusse in de Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant een reeks artikelen had gepubliceerd over de leef- en arbeidsomstandigheden van thuiswerkers en confectiearbeiders. Het behoort tot de bekendste sociale reportages van Brusse, die later ook naam maakte met onder meer Boefje (1903) en Het rosse leven en sterven van de Zandstraat (1912).
