Prior to her arrival in the Netherlands, Christa Ehrlich designed architectural decorations and fashion, curtain and wallpaper patterns. She had no experience designing three-dimensional, machine-produced utensils. It is therefore all the more remarkable that within weeks of joining the Silver Factory in Voorschoten, she delivered her first designs for utility silver.

Characteristic of her work is the purity of form: the object itself, not the ornament (as in previous centuries), plays the central role. Christa Ehrlich’s progressive and sleek designs were praised by many.
