Reprinted after the first edition of 1788. In part 5 (pp. 5-58) Wilhelm Isbrand Bonteku’s merkwürdige Abentheuer auf einer Reise aus Holland nach Ostindien. The German teacher Campe based his adaptation of the famous adventures of Willem IJsbrantsz Bontekoe on the earlier German adaptation in the Allgemeine Historie der Reisen zu wasser und Lande (Leipzig 1751, vol. VIII). He was especially interested in true stories that could learn something to children and yet were attractive for the youth. Bontekoe’s spectacular survival after the massive explosion of his ship the Nieuw Hoorn, fitted extremely well in Campe’s ideas.B0013
