A rare copy of Michel Pastoureau’s Les Chevaliers de la Table Ronde. First edition printed in 900 copies. This is one of the 100 copies bound in full red morocco (number 44). Numbers 1-100 are the version pleine peau (leather exclusive edition), numbers 101-900 are the version prestige. This book is presented in a bookbinder’s case with rounded ends edged in leather. The four sides are lined on the outside with marbled paper, identical to the book’s endpapers, and on the inside with suede paper. The edges of the pages are brightly shining due to the good qualiy of the gold. This case completes a truly fine set.

Illustrations in color, some full page, some in the text. For instance illustration of Lancelot, prisoner of Meleagant, at the Tour des Marais.

Formerly in the collection of Daniel de Bruin, an artist specialized in modern heraldic bookplates. Ex libris of De Bruin on front pastedown, designed for him by the artist Pieter Wetselaar.

Michel Pastoureau is historian and specialist in historic symbols of the European Middle-Ages.
