Under the portrait is the coat of arms of the sitter, with motto: Fortes Creantur Fortibus.
Lettered on pedestal with five lines of Dutch description: d. ed. H. Cornelis … / … / … Maÿesteÿt Van Deenemarcke.
Signed and dated: P. Lelij Pinxit./ A. Blooteling. Sculp. et ex. 1676.
Dutch admiral and second son of the Admiral Martin Van Tromp. He visited England in 1675 when he was created a baronet by Charles II.

Portret in ovaal met lijst in vorm van samengebonden lauwerkrans, boven plint. Gemaakt door Blooteling naar Lely. Gemerkt linksonder: ‘P.Lelij, Pinxit.’ Gemerkt rechtsonder: ‘A, Blooteling, Sculp, et, ex, 1676.’ Onderschrift in sierletters (ter weerszijden van wapen): ‘d Ed. H/r CORNELIS TROMP Ridder / Baronnet L’ Admirael van Hollandt en / West-vrieslandt DomHeer tot Uytrecht / Admirael Generael en Secrete Raedt van / Sijn Conincklijcke Maije: steijt van Deenemarcke.’ Opschrift (wapenspreuk op banderol): ‘FORTES / CREANTUR / FORTIBUS’.
