Standing on the sides of a globe, Neptune, the god of the sea, points to the water and Cybele, the goddess of the earth, measures the land. In the foreground, Geography sits with a tablet and pen in hand next to all kinds of measuring instruments. Atlas carries the Earth in the background. Title page for the Atlas by Jan Barend Elwe, published in 1792.

Hand colored engraving on paper, with margins; plate mark: 467 x 305 mm, total: 530 x 342 mm; traces of foldings, some dirt and smudges, ink traces also on the verso, some spots on the margins, yet very bright color and nice impression. Hollstein 3.
