Controversial book written by Emanuel Josephson. With illustrations by André Michaillot. About Skoptsy. The radical religious sect that emerged in the late 18th century in Russia. They believed that sexual desire was the root of sin and that true spiritual purity required elminiting it completely. They had acts like the lesser seal and the greater seal. The Skoptsy developed out of the mystical sect known as the Khlysty. A key leader was Kondraty Selivanov.
