On the right foreground two ostriches in an exotic landscape; three parrots are perched in a fruit tree at left, which is surrounded at the bottom by flowers; a bird of paradise and two love birds (or parakeets) fly overhead; in the background, some mountains and a pyramid surrounded by trees and bushes, including cycads and cypresses.
On verso collectors’marks: Unidentified mark (L. 1189a), Paul Davidsohn (1839-1924) (L. 654); a note in pencil on verso referring to the purchase of the etching by Davidsohn in 1857 (‘Münchner Auction’) which can refer to either Montmorillon’s sale (Lugt 23698) or Aumüller’s (Lugt 23628) [not Lugt 23781 where only collection Ludwig Puttrich was sold].
Signed at bottom: ‘F. Barlow Invent / R. Gaywood fecit’.
Etching on laid paper, trimmed to plate mark; total: 164 x 190 mm; only state; on verso some dirt and handwritten annotations in pen and pencil. Despite a small imperfection on top right corner, in great condition. Very nice impression. Pennington 2137.
