after Jan Martsz. de Jonge (1609/10-1647/67) and Jan van de Velde II (1593-1641)

Original etching: From the “Spanish Garrison leaving Maastricht,” 1632/Spaans garnizoen verlaat Maastricht 1632.

An interesting pastiche (nabootsing) of two impressions by van de Velde after Martsz. de Jonge, which are included in the six-plates set of the “Spanish Garrison leaving Maastricht” from 1632. In particular, the scene taking place in the foreground with some soldiers on horseback is copied after the right side of Van de Velde’s Hollstein 106, whereas the right side representing other men on horseback and other on foot, is copied after the right side of Van de Velde’s Hollstein 105.
Undocumented in Hollstein’s of Maertsz and Van de Velde, this impression is numbered on the bottom right with nr “4.” Rare.
